Greentarget’s Intern Program
More than half of our client-facing staff came to Greentarget as interns, including several members of our senior leadership team.
That means we’ve always viewed our internship program as our most powerful recruiting and hiring tool – it allows young professionals to experience our culture and lets us see what they can do.
“Greentarget doesn’t send you to get coffee, they send you to call the editorial staff from top publications and pitch reporters on national television,” one former intern told us.
With the ongoing global pandemic, our internship program is conducted entirely online, but interns still get the same experiences they would in the office: They receive the same training as new associates do, listen in on client calls, and participate in our professional-development and awards programs. They’re as likely to work on a project with a vice president, or even a founder, as a junior associate, and the tasks they’re given – be it monitoring breaking news developments, conducting and analyzing secondary research, drafting communications, or pitching reporters – require critical thinking and fresh ideas.
Because we trust them with important duties, we look for the same qualities in our interns that we value across the entire team: intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, writing and communications skills, and the confidence speak up when we inevitably ask what they think.
Internships culminate with a presentation on communications strategy
As part of our internship program, each intern spends time developing a comprehensive public relations plan to address pressing organizational challenge. You pick the topic and the organization you’re passionate about working for, and we’ll provide you with helpful check-ins (e.g. introducing research, content, and digital elements) along the way. In the past, our interns have addressed diversity issues at Adidas, new streaming opportunities for the NBA, and exciting product launches for local craft breweries.
The internship culminates with the intern’s presentation of their campaign, sparking conversation among the Greentarget team and occasionally leading to new pro bono clients.
